Erica’s Wish is a 1k. 5k. 10k race to comfort and raise awareness of Osteosarcoma and kids fighting Cancer. Erica’s Wish was created when a beautiful girl named Erica, was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma (Osteosarcoma). Osteosarcoma is the same cancer that Terry Fox had. Erica like Terry, had a long series of chemotherapy treatments and a modified amputation. Family friend, Sue Strong visited Erica in the hospital and asked “what should we do for your 13th birthday” Erica promptly said “put on a race to raise awareness of kids with Cancer”. In that 5 second thought, Erica’s Wish was created. We are well known for our “feel good” event as their is a distance for everyone.
Proceeds from Erica’s Wish go to the Erica’s Wish blanket program at SickKids Hospital.
To change things up a bit we have cupcakes at every event as we plan the race right around Erica’s birthday each year. Instead of medals we have pendants that can be worn everyday. We have a theme word that goes on the pendants. A new word for each year. Our race is professionally timed for those competitive minds.Proceeds from Erica’s Wish go to the Erica’s Wish blanket program at SickKids Hospital. Once admitted to SickKids Oncology, each child will receive an Erica’s Wish blanket to comfort them throughout their tests and treatments. We supply approximately 20-30 blankets a month with a story about Erica. These blankets and Erica’s story gives children the hope and a reason to believe in a better tomorrow.
